I finally took the plunge – and all that. On January 16th, Guelph Spoken Word held it’s Poetry Slam at the Guelph Googenheim. Let me start by saying that I had the greatest time! It was so great to see people who really enjoy performing poetry. And greater still to have people who appreciate it. Brendan McLeod was the featured Poet, and he was eloquent, entertaining, and SMART. You can see his stuff here.
I got through the first round (Woo hoo!) and that is amazing for me, considering it’s the first Slam I’ve ever attended. And that everyone there was so good. A shout out to Matthew Dryden who was hosting, and who is a great poet too.
A special shout out to JM Prescott, who is the reason I was there in the first place. If it was not for her encouraging me, I would never have had the guts to get up and speak.

I’m also attaching the Poem that got me through. Enjoy!
Musings
Satirically inclined to believe that nothing before, or nothing to come, would ever be as it is now. Caught in a whirlwind of forced and contrived emotions, I fall through the hole in my floor.
I don’t fall far, because the basement hasn’t been dug out yet. We built the house first, and then decided to dig away. Foundations are over-rated anyways.
When the guests come over, we treat them with artificial humor, sprinkled with whip cream and a cherry on top. We leave out the sprinkles…we have to watch our weight.
Don’t point out the obvious. That would be bromidic. Who likes bromides? Be as sulphuric as you can. The explosion will be louder. And we all love fireworks.
The colors in the sky are so old. Lets bring out the paints and erase the old. Progress is important, and imagination a must. Lets try for the modern look. Steel-gray is just so it.
Endings are usually hard. Beginnings are simple. They just take a nod and a smile. And those are for free.
