I lay in bed
And prepare to fall asleep.
I pull the blankets –
Yes. Not one.
But both of them
(I hate feeling cold)
And make sure I
Have locked out the chill.
I fluff the pillows
And turn them around
To “air them out”
I wiggle my toes
And work the kinks
Out of my ankles.
I scringe and revel
At the sound of my
Joints cracking.
I straighten my legs
And stretch them out
As far as they will go.
Streeeeeettttchhhhhh.
I arch my back
And flip over
To the other side.
I drop my shoulders
And try to loosen
The muscles behind my neck.
They get so tense.
My thoughts fly to you.
Will you come
And lean over my back
Place your strong hands
There
Right between my shoulders
And work away
My kinks
My worries
My cares.
And when I
Am lying there
All relaxed
And loose
And free
I will turn into your arms
And gently
Fall asleep.
